Help Your Kids Show Off Healthy Smiles

The team at Shenton Park Family Dental loves meeting children and looking after them and their oral health. Every member of our staff is well-versed in treating children and makes their experience welcoming and fun.

We wanted to share our top three tips for raising kids with healthy teeth and smiles.

All of our tips below are applicable to adults, too.

1. Pick Two Songs

You may have heard that it’s a good idea to play a song when brushing, but why not pick two songs? Choose one that is about two minutes long that will be the “brushing teeth song” that you play when you brush together with your child–a favourite is The Wiggles Toothbrush song. The second song can be upbeat and fun to dance to– the mini dance party acts as a fun incentive for your little one to brush their teeth.

2. Keep It Positive When You Visit The Dentist

Even adults can feel nervous about the dentist, which can likely stem from a negative experience in the past that they might not even remember. In order to help your child have a positive association with us, be encouraging and reassuring.

3. Bring Your Child In Early!

Let your child watch a parent, older sibling or even a friend who is not scared get something simple like a dental checkup and clean performed so they know it’s not that bad.

Is it time for your little one to pay us a visit?

We provide a broad range of services for kids including checkups, early intervention orthodontics, emergency dentistry and more. At their routine checkups, we’ll examine your child’s mouth and teeth to ensure everything looks as it’s supposed to. We may identify crowding or spacing issues early on and recommend proper orthodontic care if need be in older children. We’ll also check for cavities and gum issues, letting you know of anything we find. If we need to take x-rays, we’ll let you know. Then, we’ll move on to cleaning your child’s teeth.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule allows up to $1026 in dental care every two years for children between the ages of 2-17. Would you like to know whether your child is covered? Get in touch with us, and we’ll check their eligibility for you! Otherwise we also accept all major health funds.
